Quality & Testing

Testing Procedures

The following are the quality parameters Melrose manages most closely:

  • Color control:  Spectra colorimetry is used to measure and control color in the CIE LAB color space.
  • ​Ink adhesion:  Ink adhesion and durability are measured by cross hatch tape pull and hardness/abrasion testing.
  • Dimensional:  An optical comparator and micrometers are used to confirm dimensional specifications.
  • Adhesive performance is assessed with respect to dynamic peel and static shear.
  • Tactile response (feel) of a membrane switch button is measured by analyzing the amplitude, rise slope, and overall shape of the  force displacement curve.
  • Electrical function:
Open/Shorts Test
  • Open/short tests are performed on circuits prior to assembly.
  • The electrical resistance and function are assessed for each key and LED and associated with a unique part number in our electronic database prior to shipping.
  • Dielectric strength high voltage tests identify marginal electrical conditions.
  • Outdoor weatherability:  An environmental chamber simulates outdoor conditions with alternating exposure of Xenon arc light (UV) and water spray.

Melrose Quality Philosophy

Melrose holds AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 registrations appropriate to: Manufacturer of Metal Stamping, Metal Nameplates, Membrane Switches, EMI/ESD Shields, Optical Windows, Graphic Overlays, Electronic printing, Labels and Lenses; UL Labels, Assembly of Customer Control Panels for the Military, Aerospace Industries, Medical Devices and Commercial Applications

Looking at every quality issue as a chance to assess our systems and evaluate how we are    implementing them.  
Viewing quality issues as opportunities to improve and increase our competitiveness. 
Using our corrective action system as a primary driver of improvement. This process    includes an analysis of quality issues and determination of the root cause (i.e., systems    or implementation issue).  
Paying close attention to our customers in the aerospace and medical equipment              markets, as they have the highest quality standards. These customers are the day in day    out confirmation that we are on track and improving.

Aerospace:
Melrose is certified to the AS9100D (Level D is a major rewrite as of late 2016)



Medical:  
Melrose products meet the relevant medical ISO standards. We engineer identification products for infusion pumps and other products used in clinical, hospital and dental settings.

Melrose's biocompatible overlays are rated USP Class VI and FDA approved for the following tests: systemic toxicity,                   intracutaneous, toxicity, implantation, cytotoxicity, hemolysis, pyrogenicity, sensitization, physico-chemical.
ISO 10993-Our graphic overlays and medical membrane switches have been qualified to the cytotoxicity and skin irritation        requirements of ISO 10993. 
ISO 13485:2003-Our manufacturing and administrative are audited to the relevant portions of ISO 13485:2003.
